American Express, IBM share gains contribute to Dow’s 131-point climb

Shares of American Express and IBM are trading higher Tuesday afternoon, sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average into positive territory.

The Dow DJIA, -0.19% is trading 131 points higher (0.4%), as shares of American Express AXP, +8.92% and IBM IBM, +5.65% are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday rally. American Express’s shares have risen $15.00 (9.4%) while those of IBM are up $7.91 (6.1%), combining for a roughly 151-point boost for the Dow. Other components contributing significantly to the gain include Chevron CVX, +4.25%, Johnson & Johnson JNJ, +2.86%, and Visa V, +0.07%. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the index results in a 6.59-point swing.
