Thread teams up with mental health app maker to offer digital support services to trial patients

Bezyl is teaming up with contract research organization Thread to provide clinical trial patients with access to the digital mental health company’s app and support systems.

The secure Bezyl app provides a platform for patients to seek help from friends, family and caregivers and provides resources tailored to each patient’s needs. The peer-supported nature of the app helps lessen anxiety and keep patients in clinical trials.

Thread will now offer the app to study sponsors, adding to the decentralized trial expert’s stable of offerings that seek to make clinical research more efficient.

“We recognize that supporting participants in clinical trials requires a multi-faceted approach. Supporting the mental health of study participants is important to our customers, sites, study teams and THREAD,” CEO John Reites said in a Tuesday statement.

The app was inspired by Bezyl founder and CEO Esther Howard who lost a close friend to colon cancer and set out to create a better solution for families and patients in need of support.

“Patients participating in clinical research, especially cancer patients, can benefit from realizing the full strength from their network of supporters,” Howard said.

The company recently rolled out a Ukraine-specific version of the app to help Ukrainians find support networks and humanitarian aid in the midst of the Russian invasion.
