Japan exports rise in March as global demand grows

Japan’s exports posted strong growth in March, as demand recovered overseas and continued in China, Ministry of Finance data showed Monday.

Exports rose 16.1% from a year earlier in March. That compared with February’s 4.5% decline and was better than the 12.4% increase expected by economists surveyed by data provider FactSet.

Exports to China led the growth, increasing by 37.2%, mainly due to the strong demand for non-food raw materials, nonferrous metals and plastic.

Exports to the U.S. also recovered from the previous month’s decline as industrial machinery and cars contributed to the growth.
